THOMAS CRISSMAN s RESEARCH PROJECTS

Retrofitting old urban and developing new urban areas in Tampa to address water management. .

Patel Professor of Environment with joint appointments in the Patel Center for Global Solutions and the Division of Integrative Biology, Department of Biology and a courtesy appointment in Civil and Environmental Engineering . His research focuses on wetlands and their use in better water management practices throughout the world. Potential projects for REU students would be centered around both retrofitting old urban and developing new urban areas in Tampa to address water management, especially using constructed and natural wetlands for treatment of storm water and waste water. S tudents will take a multi-faceted approach for integrating social, economic, public health and scientific issues for multiple use of sites. Students will learn how to design with nature and to integrate such options within a broader management perspective of the landscape.
